Nuclear Weapons and Our Future

The threat of nuclear weapons is a dull, anxious constant for many people. Those who grew up during the cold war will recognise the fear of seeing a plane’s vapour trails in the sky. Whilst nuclear weapons may not make the headlines so much anymore, that does not make them any less prevalent in today’s society. Last year the UK government spent well over £7bn on nuclear weapons (commonslibary.gov.uk), and the US spent close to $100bn. In an era where these staggering figures could solve so many of the World’s greatest challenges there has been a resurgence in calls for nuclear disarmament. If you want to have your voice heard in this discussion then we have the forum for you to do it.

You are invited to join Kate Hudson (General Secretary of CND) with Surrey CND, Labour, Green and XR members to hear and discuss why the threat of nuclear weapons is as much as issue today, as ever, and what we can do about.
The event, organised by the Redhill and Reigate CND group, will take place at 7.30pm on Wednesday 23rd September and last about 1 hour, 15 minutes. It will bring CND, together with Labour and Green members with XR activists, from across Surrey. After a talk from Kate there will be short responses from Robin (on behalf of the local Labour Party), Jonathan (Green Party) and Lorna (XR Redhill and Reigate). This will be followed by a Q & A session. Come and join us. Please sign up for this (online) event at the link below.
