Would you stand as a candidate in the local elections?

Would you like to stand in the local elections, making sure Green ideas are heard and giving people a chance to vote for what they believe in?

In May 2019, there will be elections for councillors in wards across our area.

In Reigate and Banstead, we have a rare opportunity as ALL councillors will be up for election, following changes to the ward boundaries. People will have three votes, instead of just one, and will vote in three councillors in each of our 15 new wards.

In Tandridge, it is business as usual with one councillor elected in each ward.

Would you like to stand?

We are looking for people to stand in as many wards as possible. We will have two kinds of candidates:

  • Target candidates, who are willing to campaign hard to be elected, and to serve as Councillors, in the areas where we have the best chance of winning.¬† If you are interested in finding out more about what this involves, contact Jonathan Essex for an informal chat.
  • Paper candidates, in areas where we don’t expect to win. Being a paper candidate means your name will be on the ballot paper, but you will not do any campaigning. Paper candidates are important as they give people a chance to vote Green, and help us identify where we have support.

We particularly welcome enquiries from women, Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic people, deaf and disabled people, and LGBTQIA+ people.

If you have any questions, or would like to register your interest in standing as a candidate please email our election agent, Sarah Finch.
