Young woman worried about climate change. Green Party logo

With the climate crisis getting worse it is easy to think there is nothing we can do. As individuals this may be true but together we can really make a difference. Working as a team, we can change our environment: locally, nationally and for the whole world.

If you see any of the opportunities below and think ‘I could do that’ please send an email to monica@eastsurreygp.org.uk. If you are not sure, don’t worry, there is plenty of training and support on hand.

So, what can you do?

Stand for Parliament

We are currently looking for 3 Parliamentary candidates for the Reigate, East Surrey and Dorking and Horley constituencies. To be a parliamentary candidate you will need to:

  • Really care about Green Policies.
  • Be a persuasive and confident public speaker.
  • Be able to dedicate yourself to an election campaign.

If you are interested and would like to know more please send an email to monica@eastsurreygp.org.uk

Become a councillor

With 11 borough councillors, two county councillors and two members of Horley Town council we are making our voices heard in local politics. Being a councillor is an important way to influence local policies and make a real difference in your community.

Leaflet production and delivery

Even in our digital world we rely on (sustainably printed) leaflets to get our message across. And the more leaflets we can get through doors the more our Green message is spread.

But all of this takes work and organisation to happen. To create and deliver our newsletters we need people who can:

  • Collect and write local Green stories for the newsletters.
  • Format newsletters and arrange for printing.
  • Map new leaflet delivery rounds.
  • Act as a coordinator and ‘hub’ for local delivery.
  • Deliver leaflets.

Even if you would just like to deliver to your own road that is a big help.

Canvassing

Canvassing is knocking on doors and asking people to talk about their concerns. Of course, the response is varied, a few people don’t want to talk, but it is a great way to have really interesting conversations and find out what matters to people. It is also a good way to find out who has or will vote for us and build support.

You will need to be confident in talking to all sorts of people but, when you first start, you will be with an experienced canvasser. Many people vote Green for the first time because of these conversations so it does really work.

Social media and digital communications

We have our own local comms team but we are always on the look out for people with social media and digital skills. Are you good at writing blogs or creating podcasts? Can you take a good photo/video or create a good media campaign? Then your local Green Party can make use of your skills. Let us know and we will bring you into the team.

Or do you have a story to tell but don’t know how to tell it? We hear about all kinds of amazing things happening around the borough. Let us know and we will turn it into a social media story.

I don’t have any time but I’d like to do something!

We don’t have any paid campaigners in the area but all of our campaigning costs money. Can you donate £10 a month? This will help us print leaflets, create Facebook campaigns and plan a general election campaign. Just click on the link below to give to your local party.
